John Ronald Reuel Tolkien born on 3 January , 1892, died on 2 Sept. , 1973 - English writer, linguist, scholar, best known as the author of "The Hobbit" and the trilogy "Lord of the Rings."

Publications:

1937 — The Hobbit or There and Back Again — a book that Tolkien has written for his children, but by sheer accident it came to the attention an employee of the London publishing firm, and soon was published. But the book for children attracted adult readers as well, and it became popular enough for the publishers to ask Tolkien to work on a sequel.
